Mid Ulster LFC vs Carrick Tournament (with audio)

A bit of a lull on the domestic league fixtures was broken by the participation of the Mid Ulster Girls in the fun day of the Carrick tournament.  The tournament proper also saw the involvement of three Mid Ulster players with Mykylea Stewart, Simone Magill and Hayley O’Donnell playing for the N. Ireland under 19 development squad.  The girls won their two group games and where unlucky to loose out 2- 1 to the English club side that eventually won the tournament. On Saturday both the Mid Ulster Juniors and the Seniors travelled to Carrick to play in the 5 aside tournaments.  The Juniors played Crusaders Newtownabbey Strikers against whom they earned a very credible 0-0 draw and the result was the same in their second group match against Foyle Girls.  Unfortunately due to other results the girls did not progress from their group but their performances in both games were very impressive and team manager Elaine Junk was delighted with the performance..   Junior squad was Jacqueline Burns, Emma McFarland, Ruth Montgomery, Hannah Smyth, Lyn Sommerville, Amy McFarland, Becky Flanagan and Jessica Crooks. A senior squad was also entered and they won their group with a 4 – 0 victory over American side Danville and a 7-0 victory over the Polish team.  Their reward for this was a semi final match against Newbridge Predators.  The Predators goalkeeper was in fine form and she did manage to keep the game scoreless for some time.  However Mid Ulsters pressure was eventually to pay off and Simone Magill made the breakthrough to win the game in ordinary time.  The final was then against a second Danville team and it was another physical encounter for the Mid Ulster girls.  Mykyleas Stewart kept things tight at the back and Clare Charles in goals wasn’t troubled too often. Hayley O’Donnell, Simone Magill, Adele Gillespe and Michelle Scott battled hard and were demonstrating some great interplay going forward.  Although the Danville keeper was excellent she could do nothing about the goals scored by Simone Magill and Adelle Gillepse.  So the final finished 2 – 0 to the Mid Ulster girls. A great day out was rounded off when the Mid Ulster girls were interviewed by Gavin Andrews from Radio Ulster and performed keepie uppies for the first time on live Radio.  Good luck to all the Girls from the club who are attending the IFA residential in Coleraine this week.
