Mid Ulster LFC vs Inter Sunago

After a weeks lay off Mid Ulster returned to action with two games this week.  On Monday night Mid Ulster hosted Inter Sunago, a team of players from Spain, Portugal, USA, Germany and France who were visiting the province this week.  Having beaten the Ambassadors in Sport team earlier in the week by 7 goals, Mid Ulster knew that the visitors would be no push over.  The visitors showed some great individual skill but the home team clearly had greater experience of playing together and their superior team work led them into a 4-0 lead by half time.  After the break a number of the fringe players for Mid Ulster got a run out and the visitors managed to sneak a couple of goals.  Mid Ulster also added to their total to finish the game 5 – 2. On Thursday night Newbridge Predators where the visitors as league action returned to the Mid Ulster Sports arena.  The Match was kindly sponsored by Lissan Coal Company.  With both teams mid table this was a matter of pride.  The game was certainly competitive and as the first half progressed Mid Ulster began to create a number of chances.  Unfortunately Mid Ulster seemed to have forgotten their shooting boots as they just couldn’t seem to hit the target.  The home support were kept on the edge of their seats as Predators when they did break were still looking dangerous as they showed when one effort came back off the bar.  Mid Ulster knew that their pressure would count for nothing if they didn’t convert one of the many chances but the opening goal was well worth waiting for. When Adele Gillespe picked up the ball 25 yards out she had only one thought on her mind and a dipping left foot strike nestled in the top corner of the Newbridge net to open the scoring.  Definitely a contender for goal of the season the strike came just before the half time break. The second half saw more of the same as Mid Ulster continued to dominate with Simone Magill and Ruth Brown causing havoc down the wings ably supported by Mykylea Stewart and Colleen McCullagh.  The pressure was eventually rewarded when Ruth Brown made a great run down the left wing and pulled a ball back across the face of goal.  Laura Burton showed great determination and courage to beat the Predators keeper to the ball to make the score 2-0.  The home team may have thought the game was over but Predators had other ideas.  A free kick 20 yards out was well executed to reduce the deficit but Mid Ulster held out to take all three points. Team:  T Bell, C Brown, K Donnell, M Stewart, C McCullagh, S Magill, R Brown, A Gillespe, H O’Donnell, M Derby, L Burton Subs S Lee, R Stewart, L Johnston, C Charles Congratulations to Simone Magill and Hayley O’Donnell who represented N.Ireland Under 17s at the Galway tournament last week.  The girls and their colleagues lifted the trophy with Simone also picking up the accolade of Player of the tournament. The club recently held a very successful trip to Tain Adventure centre in Omeath.  Apart from some of the team swallowing half of Carlingford Lough a great day was had by all. The senior team are away to Crusaders Newtown abbey strikers this Wednesday night and the final match of the season is at home to Linfield on Wednesday 26 August at the Sports Arena 7.30pm kick off.
