Mid Ulster V Monaghan Utd 2-2

By · April 8, 2010 · Filed in Match Report
Mid Ulster travelled to Monagahan on Wed 7 April for their final game before the start of the league.  In a very competitive encounter the girls worked hard to earn a 2-2 draw.  This game saw senior debuts for Jessica McGurk and Chloe Barnes both of whom showed great potential. The game started with Mid Ulster in comand and it was very much against the run of play when Monagahan Utd opened the scoring mid way through the half.  The Mid Ulster girls continued to dominate possession and just before half time Hayley O'Donnell evened the game up with a strike from the edge of the box. The second half saw Mid Ulster again dominating possession from the kick off and they took a well deserved lead after a great free kick from Adele Gillespe found the back of the net.  Changes on both sides saw Monaghan start to come more into the game and Debbie Rankin had to be quickly off her line on a couple of occassions to thwart the Monaghan front two.  An injury to Colleen McCullagh saw Mid Ulster reduced temporarily to 10 men and the Monagahn girls made the push for the equaliser.  They got their goal minutes from the end to draw the game level.  The Mid Ulster girls did not give up and Michelle Derby was unlucky to see her effort go just wide just before the final whistle.
