5 aside fun.

The Mid Ulster crew travelled to Loughview Sports centre in Dungannon on Sunday 21 Nov to participate in the IFA Football for all fives competition.  A slightly depleted team travelled and Ma had to beg, bribe and batter some girls into playing for her (3 of whom she had never met before).  A great 2 hours craic was had by all and nobody got hurt so you could say it was worth it.  Teams from Camlough, Portadown, Swifts and Loughgall took part and Mid Ulster really screwed up Ruth Bs immaculate fixture list but she coped well.  Mid Ulster started with Kaysha in goals (yes one of the girls we had never met before) but she was actually a pretty good keeper.  The ever dependable Karen Donnell was a rock in defence.  Not even the PSNI could stop Karen from attending!  Two other conscripts Mary (my squash buddie) and Collette (a camogie player) were in midfield. Ma was floating about and Stacey Lee was marauding up front.  Yes I know I know that is 6 and I said 5 aside but have you seen the size of that place.  All the teams agreed to play 6 (praise be to the Lord!)  We also had Janet (super sub).  Mid Ulster started against Camlough and ran out easy winners against the inexperienced young girls.  Team morale was high for the next game but it was swiftly brought back down to earth as Loughgall demonstrated youth and ability to record a comfortable victory.  The third game against Portadown was a tight affair and when Portadown scored a few minutes before the end they thought they had all 3 points wrapped up.  They didnt count on super sub Janet and with her first touch she sent Stacy Lee through on goal and Stacy scored a cracker with her RIGHT foot ... yes she has one.   The final game was against a very young (actually too young according to the rules) Swifts team and once again Mid Ulster came out on top.  The girls can be proud of themselves especially playing together for the first time. Congratulations to Portadown who ran out winners with Loughgall second and Mid Ulster third.   Heres looking forward to the next one on 16 Jan. Thanks to Ruth and David for the organisation and the refereeing.
