Senior Success while Juniors Freeze

The Senior girls had a successful Dale Farm 5 aside tournament on Sunday 7 November in Newtownabbey.  In a tournament packed with talented teams the girls achieved second place overall only narrowly beaten by Crusaders Newtownabbey Strikers.  The team had the perfect blend of youth and experience and apparently it was a joy to behold some of the classy football on show.   As the girls have yet to write a match report you will have to excuse the Editor using a bit of poetic license to write this piece.  Apparently the girls all played great with Karen Handbag Donnell striking terror into the strikers on all the opposing team.  Lisa twinkletoes Richardson was lucky to keep her toes and her legs after one of her opponents decided to use her as a trampoline.  Apart from that there were goals, saves, penalty shootouts and lots of sensible and intelligent conversations and great fun was had by all.  Oh and they got nice medals and a trophy.  lets hope its the first of many.

Some of the team with the trophy like rabbits in the headlights!!

Well done to the crew Debs, Sunnie, Lisa, Hayley, Adele, Louise and Karen.

Meanwhile the Juniors travelled to Magherafelt to compete in the annual CYP tournament.  The day got off to a great start when Elaine tried to eat Jackies elbow or something like that.  Anyway luckily there was no teeth spat out and Jackie also lived to tell the tale.  On the football side of things the girls started slowly with a defeat to Moneyslane and a hard fought draw with Lisburn.  The venue was a little bit chilly so team hot chocoate was called for... purely medicenal of course.  Another defeat this time to Cappagh Spurs was the final straw for Emma Mc and she went home (joking she had an important birthday to attend) but this meant a re jig in the MU line up.  Jackie B had to come out of nets but she was replaced by Rachel Kelly who was superb.  The next game saw the girls take on the rather enthusiastic Foyle team.  I dont know what kind of spuds they eat up there but they were all big strong girls.  Clare & Elaine were a bit worried for our wee girls but we neednt have worried.  Every one of the girls played to their best and with a goal from Lyn Sommerville and one from Jackie B they girls recorded a famous 2-0 victory.  This was of course celebrated by a rain dance!!  The final game was against Sion Swifts and once again the girls gave it their all.  Erin, Sam, Jessica, Rachel, Jackie and Lyn fought tooth and nail to secure a 2-1 victory and whilst it wasnt enough to pick up any trophies a great day out was had by all.  Respect to Jessica McGurk who was our chief supporter!  Oh yes did I mention it was very very cold!  Brrrrrrr
