Saturday saw the launch of the IFA First Kicks Football Academy for girls aged 6 – 11 in Cookstown Leisure Centre.  25 enthusiastic girls took part in the Academy designed  to promote basic football and fundamental movement skills for the participants in a fun environment.  The programme is facilitated by the Irish Football Association and delivered by fully qualified coaches.  The coaching staff on this programme are local girls Clare Charles, Ruth Brown, and Elaine Junk.  The girls also benefit from having the services of current N. Ireland international player Simone Magill.  The emphasis is on fun, and skill acquisition in a non competitive environment and certainly the girls on Saturday seemed to enjoy themselves.  Sessions will run in Cookstown Leisure centre for the next 5 Saturdays 10 – 11am with the cost being £1.  Further information can be obtained from Jackie Blyth at the Irish FA 07894614305 or Clare Charles 07968344274.
