Mid Ulster triumph in Dungannon 5s

The Mid Ulster girls attended the 5 aside tournament in Dungannon on Sunday 16 January.  Unfortunately only one other team was in attendance but on the plus side it was Portadown, the team that had won the previous Dungannon tournament.  So the Mid Ulster girls knew that they would have a challenge ahead of them and so it was.  Both teams agreed to play 4 games of approximately 15 minutes each so it was to be quite a workout.  With Debs in goal, Brooke and Karen ( Handbag) at the back, Hayley & Adele working the middle and Stacey Lee up front it was a strong line up.  Oh yes and super subs Clare & Elaine of course. The first game was a close affair but some great individual skill by Stacey Lee meant MU held a 2 goal lead going into the final few minutes.  It was time to bring on the supersub (Ma) who promptly gave away a penalty for playing the ball inside the box.. (guess who had been talking when she should have been listening to the rules).  This led to  a tense final few minutes but MU held on to win the game 2-1. The second game was a bit more of a stroll for the MU crew and goals from Adele, Hayley and Stacey meant everyone could relax with Debs venturing out for a half and Adele taking up the gloves.  Ma made amends for giving away a penalty by scoring and then straight away she gave away another penalty for the same offence.  Luckily at this stage it was too late for a Portadown come back and MU ran out easy winners. The third game was a differnet affair and whether the MU girls got complacement or what the Portadown girls took an early lead and held onto it well.  With minutes remaining MU drew level but with the final kick of the game Portadown sneaked the winner. This led to an interesting final game.  Mid Ulster upped their game again and although Portadown had renewed vigour the Mid Ulster girls were back in control.  Some fine goalkeeping kept the Portadown girls in the game but Mid Ulster eventually took the lead.  Elaine & Clare came on for the last few minutes, with Clare playing up front just in case she gave away any more penalties.  A good run out was had by all, with some excellent football.
