Juniors unbeaten run continues

The Juniors played 2 games in the Dale Farm Junior League on Saturday at the Mid Ulster Sports Arena.  First up for the girls were Tandragee Rovers.  A couple of sleepy heads took to the pitch for the Mid Ulster girls but they were soon wide awake and pressing against a Tandragee side that had lined out in a very defensive formation.  The Mid Ulster girls were dominating the game and creating chance after chance with Jessica Stewart ably assisted by Lyn Sommerville and Samantha Kelly but it was difficult to get past the two banks of Tandragee defenders.  Rachel Rodgers and Erin Mulholland tried to add some width to the Mid Ulster attack but it was actually a break right through the middle that saw the first clear cut chance of the game.  Emma McFarland took the ball out of defence past a couple of Tandragee players and she was unlucky to see her shot come back off the post.  More chances followed with Samantha Kelly and Lyn Sommerville both going close but the half was to end goal less.

action against Tandrageee

The second half saw a change of personnel and after 5minutes the Mid Ulster girls made the breakthrough they deserved.  Samantha Kelly picked up the ball on the left wing and as she beat the first player a well respected coach on the sideline urged her to shoot.  Thats what she did and her great strike put the Mid Ulster girls 1-0 up.  Mid Ulster continued to press with Mollie Young and Eimear McGarrity making some great opportunities but it was the woodwork again that came to Tandragees rescue when Rachel Kelly tried to follow her sisters example.  As the clock ran down it looked like 1-0 might be enough but Tandragee had other ideas.  An earlier strike well held by Anna Donnelly should have been a warning but the next time they had a chance the Tandragee striker made no mistake in drawing the game level.

Final Score Mid Ulster 1  Tandragee 1  Player of the match award went to Samantha Kelly and Emma McFarland Next up for the girls were Banbridge.  This time Mid Ulster unleashed their secret weapon Jessica Magee up front and she certainly had the Banbridge girls running scared.  Once again the possession was all with the Mid Ulster girls but the Banbridge team were well organised and defending well and the half ended goal less.  The second half saw more of the same with Mid Ulster having a lot of possession but finding it difficult to breakdown the Banbridge defence.  Banbridge did have their chances too but Emma McFarland and Erin Mullholland kept things tight at the back and protected Anna Donnelly well.  Lyn Sommerville who had done goals in the first half had moved back into her normal midfield position and a great piece of individual skill from her proved to be the decisive strike.  Lyn took the ball on her chest turned her marker and coolly slotted the ball home  with only two minutes to play to give the Mid Ulster girls the result they deserved. Final Score Banbridge 0 Mid Ulster 1 Player of the match went to Erin Mullholland On another pitch some of the Mid Ulster Juniors and some of the Mid Ulster seniors played a friendly against Fermanagh.  The editor doesn’t know the score even though some would say she has eyes in the back of her head but apparently player of the match was Alfie Shih tzu.
