The stars of the Future

FORTY-THREE girls aged 6-17 attended the Irish FA Soccer Day Camp in Cookstown. Hosted at the Mid Ulster Sports Arena in conjunction with the Active Communities programme in Cookstown/Dungannon/Magherafelt the day proved to be a huge success. Lending their support to the camp were members of the local women's football team Mid Ulster Ladies, including two of their international players, Simone Magill and Hayley O'Donnell.

Active Communities Football Coach Ruth Brown said:  "I am delighted with the turnout today and it is encouraging to see girls from so many different schools attending, including The Royal School, Dungannon, Cookstown High and Drumglass High, not to mention all the girls from the local primary schools. Hopefully through the work of the Active Communities programme girls' soccer in this area will flourish in the next couple of years." Irish FA Women's Football Coordinator Sara Booth added: "This is the first in a series of events that the Irish FA will be rolling out over the summer and we are delighted with the response today. We would particularly like to thank Ruth and the Active Communities programme for their continued support. In addition, Mid Ulster Ladies have been fantastic today and it is exciting to see how hard they are working in this area to develop girls' and women's football." report courtesy of Irish Football Association
