Local Derby defeat for Juniors

The Juniors entertained neighbours Cappagh Spurs in the league on Sunday 23 Oct at the Mid Ulster Sports Arena.  The game was reminisent of a Tyrone Excellence centre training session with a great array of talent on show.  The rain let up for the duration of the match and the pitches were in remarkably good condition even if the spectators had to do a bit of bog snorkling to make it out to them.  The game lived up to its billing with both sides playing some great football and in a tight first half Jacqueline Burns was the busier of the two keepers with Chloe McGlade and Laura Jones for Cappagh thwarted time and again.  Helping Jackie out were her ever dependable back line and Emma McFarland, Georgia Boyd, Erin McFarland and Alexandra Lavery had to be on their toes to keep the game goalless. Despite the Cappagh pressure Mid Ulster created some chances of their own.  Anna Donnelly and Mollie Young were pestering the Cappagh back line and Eden Lavery was making great ground down the left wing.  Neither team could find the breakthrough and the half finished goaless. The second half saw a similarly high standard of play and as the heavy ground took its toal the pace of the Cappagh strikers was to be the difference.  Chloe McGlade had been a threat all day and she finally got through one on one and even Jackie couldnt stop the ball hitting the back of the net.  The Mid Ulster girls tried to regather and Samantha and Rachel Kelly were combining well and showing no signs of fatigue even though they had already played a game of hockey earlier in the day.   Lyn Sommerville was creating some great attacking moves but the final ball just wasnt coming.  A Mid Ulster attack was to lead to the Cappagh second goal with Chloe McGlade on target again from a swift counter attack.  Showing great character the Mid Ulster girls raised their game again and their hard work got some reward when Lyn Sommerville made a great break up the right wing and fizzed a ball in across the goal.  Arriving with perfect timing at the back post was Eden Lavery who made no mistake in pulling a goal back.  Mid Ulster continued to attack and Rachel Kelly was unlucky to see her effort go just wide.  Lyn Sommerville, Jessica Stewart and Samamtha Kelly all went close but they just couldnt break down the Cappagh defence.  As time wore on Mid Ulster pushed on for an equaliser and once again Cappaghs pace on the counter attack proved costly as Laura Jones made a break and extended the visitors lead once more.  In the final minute of the game Cappagh once again scored Laura Jones getting her second of the day and making the final score Mid Ulster 1  Cappagh Spurs 4. Team J Burns, G Boyd, E McFarland, A Lavery, E Mullholland, L Sommerville, E Lavery, J Stewart, S Kelly, R Kelly, M Young, A Lavery
