U15 record first League Victory

Mid Ulster travelled to Strabane on Sunday 19 February for a league encounter with Sion Swifts.  With both players having lost players to the International development squad this was a chance for the younger players in both clubs to show their stuff.  Mid Ulster struggled for numbers and arrived for the game with only 9 players.  Sion had also had difficulty rounding up the numbers but they had 11 but very sportingly agreed to play with 9 also.  The first half was a very even affair with both teams giving their all and some great football being played.  Mid Ulster went into an early lead when Mollie Young was on hand to finish off after some great work by Lyn Sommerville and Anna Donnelly.   Great defensive work from Erin Mullholland and Alexandra Lavery kept the scoreline as it was for some time but after a period of pressure Sion equalised and shortly afterwards took the lead.  As the half wore on Mid Ulster again applied the pressure and after hitting the post Lyn Sommerville made no mistake with her next attempt bringing the scores back level. With the game level at the break the second half was set up to be a good one.  The Mid Ulster Coaches of Junkie and Ma were delighted with the performance but little did they know what was in store for the second half.  The Mid Ulster girls started strongly and it wasnt long before Lyn Sommerville was on the score sheet again and again.  With a two goal cushion the girls started to play with confidence and from Megan Ferson in goals right the way through the team there were some great performances.  Brigid Quinn in her first game was cool and calm, she even had enough time to keep Eden informed of the score.  On the left or was it the right Rachel Rodgers again produced another assured display turning defence into attack on a number of occasions.  Further goals from Lyn Somerville and Anna Donnelly were only interrupted by a Sion Swifts goal but in the end the Mid Ulster girls could have extended their lead with both Eden and Alexandra Lavery both going close.  Sion Swifts to their credit did not give up and kept pushing right to the end but it was the Mid Ulster girls who were supreme at the final whistle with a final score of Sion 3 Mid Uslter 8.  Thanks to Sion Swifts for a very sporting game and lovely tea and Buns after the game.
