U17 League Mid Ulster U17s hosted Lisburn in their second game of the winter league on Sunday afternoon at the Mid Ulster Sports arena. Mid Ulster started the game brightly and indeed dominated the early possession requiring the Lisburn no 1 to pull off a number of good saves. The pressure on the Lisburn goal was relentless and it was no more than the home team deserved when Mollie Young was on hand to open the scoring with her first goal of the season. Lisburn tried to reply swiftly but Emma McFarland who still wasn't sure what pitch we were playing on and Tara Donaghy were proving a hard pairing to get past. Nine minutes later Mid Ulster doubled their lead when Sarah Connolly got her first of the game directly from a great Mid ulster goal kick. Four minutes later Mid Ulster Keeper Jacqueline Burns once again claimed an assist as her superb kicking sent Sarah Connolly through once again to make the score 3-0. Lisburn battled on bravely but Mid Ulster were having great joy down the wings with Lyn Sommerville and Samantha Kelly. With 30 minutes of the half played Lyn Sommerville fizzed a cross in from the right and once again Sarah Connolly was on hand to grab her hat trick. The final minute of the half saw Mid Ulster awarded a free kick in a central position about 30 yards out. Chloe McCarrons strike beat everyone except the top corner of the crossbar but as the ball came down Sarah Connolly was on hand to nod the ball home and finish the half 5-0 to the home team. Lisburn regrouped at half time and enjoyed some early possession but the Mid Ulster girls were not intent on resting on their first half exploits. Rachel Rodgers and Rachael Kelly were showing how wing backs should be playing with great overlapping runs and crosses for the Mid Ulster girls to attack. In between all that Rachel R still managed to tie her laces 32 times!.  Anna Donnelly was working hard in the midfield area winning the ball and providing the opportunity for Chloe McCarron to push forward. Chloe McCarron was proving a torment to the Lisburn girls, with her pinpoint passing and direct approach. With 5 minutes of the half played she once again showed what a threat she is with a rasping shot to extend the Mid Ulster advantage to 6. Minutes later Chloe was on the score sheet again with another shot from distance and although the Lisburn keeper got to the ball she just couldn’t keep it out. Mid Ulster heads were up once again and on 12 minutes Samantha Kelly got in on the scoring act with a great run and shot to make it 8-0. To be fair to Lisburn they stuck to their task and as the half wore on they were rewarded winning a couple of corners in succession. The end result however was not forthcoming and the Mid Ulster girls were determined to finish the game with a clean sheet. Just to put the icing on the cake Sarah Connolly popped up again to add another to her tally and round off a great result for the Mid Ulster girls.
