U13s have a great day out at Belfast Cup

The U13 team recently travelled to Shankill Leisure Centre to participate in the Belfast Cup.  With 19 teams in the indoor competition the girls knew they were going to have to be at their best to even get out of their group.  Fuelled by cookies, shortbread and cup cakes the Mid Ulster girls went through their group unbeaten which was no mean feat.  A hard fought 2-0 opener against a very big strong Ards team (scorers were Eimear and Casey) was followed by an impressive 3-1 win against SOP (scorers Eimear (2), Jessica.  The group winner was to be decided in the last match against Glentoran.  Mid Ulster needed to win as a draw would see Glentoran through on goal difference.  Mid Ulster approached the game with a positive attitude and they were on the attack right from the off.  The Glentoran no 1 was having an inspired game making a number of super saves.  It was going to take something special to break the deadlock and the special moment game when Jessica Magee won a penalty after a bit of manhandling from one of the Glentoran defenders.  Jessica was on a mission and took the ball and struck a sweet penalty into the bottom left hand corner.  This was enough to see the Mid Ulster girls deservedly through to the semi final. u13 belfast cup team Crusaders were the opponents in the semi final and whether or not it was just one piece of confectionary too far the Mid Ulster girls were beaten 3-0.  It was no surprise then that Crusaders went ahead and won the final beating Ballynahinch 2-1.     A great day was had by all and the girls are now looking forward to the Futsal league in January.
