U17s enjoy another good performance

The U17 team travelled to West Belfast on Sunday 15 Dec to take on CSP in the U17 league.  A number of regulars were missing due to injury and unavailability but the 9 girls who travelled were more than up for the task.  A spirited but inexperienced CSP were under pressure right from the off but a combination of the bar and rusty finishing kept the game scoreless until the 11th minute.  It took some route one football to open the scoring as Jacqueline Burns kick out bounced through the CSP defence and brushed off their keeper into the net.  First goal of the season for our Jackie.  More pressure followed from Mid Ulster and Mollie Young went close but CSP stood firm and it was the 20th minute before Anna Donnelly doubled the lead for the visitors.  This served to open the flood gates and now buoyed with confidence Lyn Sommerville fired home number 3 from wide on the right.  As the half drew to a close Chloe McCarron struck a trademark scorcher from 25 yards to leave the visitors with a comfortable 4-0 lead at half time. The second half was once again dominated by Mid Ulster but CSP had their moments and Jackie Burns had to change back from striker to goalkeeper which she did equally well.  With 3 at the back Chloe Bowden was marshalling the back line and at every opportunity Rachel Kelly and Rachael Rodgers were posing a threat down the wings in addition to their defensive duties.  Samantha Kelly had taken a bit of stick at half time about her lack of goals and boy did she make her tormentors eat their words.  A switch of wings saw Sam score 5 times in the half to round off a comprehensive 9-0 victory and even the torrential icy rain couldn't take the shine off the performance. Some of the girls were so pleased they even did a wee dance, click the link to view http://www.jibjab.com/view/HwOhPFVgYLotq2KXt1fG
