2013 Championship winners Dromore had knocked Mid Ulster out of the Mid Ulster Cup last season so they must have fancied their chances this time round.  Mid Ulster had perhaps learned their lesson and perhaps encouraged by the fact that Dromore were missing a number of players due to injury and unavailability the home team started strongly.  This early pressure was rewarded with an early goal as on 2minutes Chloe McCarron unleashed one of her trademark strikes from 25 yards out.  Further chances were to follow with Aoife Curran going close.   In between times Dromore created a few chances of their own but they were restricted to shots from distance by the hardworking back line of Claire Rooney, Karen Donnell, Lisa Richardson and Emma McFarland. Sarah Connolly was creating chances and on 12 minutes a good save from the Dromore no 1 saw the first corner of the evening go to Mid Ulster.  The game was turning out to be a bruising encounter and that was just on the sidelines as Rosemary (Sarahs mum) ducked to avoid a clearance but managed to whack her nose off the bar of the fence. The home team were dominating but it took until the 23rd minute for the second goal to come.  A corner swung in from Samantha Kelly was half cleared but Sarah Connolly was on hand to fire home making it 2-0.   Two minutes later and Mid Ulster further extended their lead.  This time a cross in from Emma McFarland on the right was met at the back post by Samantha Kelly the heading expert to make it 3-0.  Mid Ulster had their tails up now and some great interplay involving Sarah Connolly and Cathy Rees resulted in a shot from Adele Gillespie that was well saved.  Samantha Kelly  however was on hand to pick up the rebound and make it 4-0 with her feet this time and 28 minutes played.   A further corner to Mid Ulster saw Karen Donnell hang like a salmon only to be sent flying by a challenge that drew gasps from everyone on the sideline but went totally unobserved by the referee.  The Mid Ulster pressure continued but Dromore showed signs of the threat that they posed.  A ball over the top resulted in Dromore winning a questionable free kick on the edge of the box which was well struck but equally well saved by Jacqueline Burns ensuring the scoreline stayed the same going into the half time break. The second half started in much the same vein as the first and this time an even quicker goal came for the home team as the impressive Aoife Curran was on target with 46 minutes on the clock.  Dromore were really up against it and their woes were further compounded when an injury forced their no 6 off the park for lengthy treatment and no subs to replace her.  Mid Ulster showed no mercy and Cathy Rees made a great run into the box but had her heels clipped and the referee had no choice but to award the penalty.  Adele Gillespie took on the job but her effort was saved and Dromore were off the hook for now.   Mid Ulster then made their first sub of the night with Alice Smith making her competitive debut for Mid Ulster replacing Cathy Rees.  Mid Ulster continued to press and Adele Gillespie was very busy but it just wasn’t to be her night to hit the net.  Further substitutions saw Chloe Barnes replace Emma McFarland and Hannah Turkington replace Samantha Kelly.  The substitutions temporarily disrupted the flow of the game but on 22 minutes Sarah Connolly finished off some great work by Adele Gillespie with her 2nd and Mid Ulsters 6th of the night.  Unfortunately the joy was short lived as 3 minutes later Aoife Curran caught an elbow in the face and had to leave the field minus a tooth.  With all their subs on the pitch Mid Ulster played out the remainder of the game with 10 players.  Both teams continued with the high tempo with Chloe Barnes going close with a shot from distance and providing a couple of searching crosses.  The other two substitutes then teamed up with Alice making a great run and pull back for Hannah whose shot just lacked the power to trouble the Dromore number 1. As the final whistle blew Mid Ulster gathered up the ice packs to enjoy their hard earned victory.
