Mid Ulster ladies entertained Lisburn Ladies in the first leg of a play off for a place in NIFL Premier league for 2017. Mid Ulster got off to a strong start with Mykylea Stewart playing in Samantha Kelly who drew a fine save from Jessica Poots in the Lisburn goal. This was to be the first of many good saves as Poots showed her class. With 13 minutes played Mid Ulster made the breakthrough, Sarah Connolly meeting a Chloe McCarron corner at the near post to make it 1-0 to the home team. lisburn-action-2 Mid Ulster continued to press with efforts from Emma McFarland, Rachael Rodger and Rebecca Bassett but the Lisburn team were well organised in defence.   Even when the shots did make there way through Jessica Poots was unbeatable. lisburn-action The second half started in a similar fashion with Mid Ulster dominating proceedings without finding a way through the lisburn ranks. With only a single goal advantage Lisburn were still very much in the game and a corner to the visitors with 54 minutes played needed a good clearing header from Mid Ulster skipper Claire Rooney. Lisburn then enjoyed a spell of pressure with a couple of shots on target one in particular drawing a fine save from Alice Smith in the Mid ulster goal. A collision between Jessica Poots and Sarah Connolly saw a lengthy stoppage as Poots received attention but thankfully both players were able to continue. Mid Ulster stepped things up again and the relentless pressure eventually told. With 80 minutes played Mykylea Stewart struck a great shot to make it 2-0. 3 minutes later a Chloe McCarron free kick from the edge of the box made it 3. Lisburn kept working hard and they thought that one attack was going to result in a strike on goal.  They didn't bank on Hambag sticking her face in the flight of the ball.  A brick wall wouldn't have stopped it better.  Thankfully Hambag could laugh it off and Mid Ulster went up the pitch  for Samantha Kelly to fire in number 4 and give the girls a good start for the return game. rooney-mom   Well done to Captain Fantastic Claire Rooney who scooped Man of the match sponsored by Darryll Magee hambag-match-sponsor   Thanks to Hambag Karen Donnell for sponsoring the game and the hospitality
